Through SWICA Terra Vital, a joint project with the WWF, SWICA aims to demonstrate its commitment to the health of humans and the environment over the next five years. The project covers two areas: peatlands and regenerative agriculture.

Protecting peatlands

Peatlands (moorlands) are unique ecosystems, almost 90 per cent of which have disappeared in Switzerland. Supporting peatland protection projects in the area of revitalisation and rewilding, is a way of counteracting this. Visiting peatlands and working together to maintain them is also good for the wellbeing of the people involved.

Regenerative agriculture

The quality of the soil in Switzerland was neglected for a long time and 50 to 70 per cent of the organic material it contained has been lost owing to intensive land use. One consequence of the reduced humus content is that the soil is less able to store water, nutrients and CO2.
