SWICA is more than just a provider of health and accident insurance. As a healthcare organisation, our customers’ wellbeing is front and centre of all that we do. Our mission is to help them stay healthy, get healthy or live well even with a health restriction.
As a healthcare organisation, we focus on people and their health.
Health is our most valuable asset, which is why SWICA is committed both to promoting health and to its customers personally.
SWICA’s Strategic Mission Statement
Four health insurance companies merge to form the SWICA Healthcare Organisation:
Health centres are developed and family doctor models promoted.
SWICA launches a comprehensive corporate insurance range (daily sickness benefits and accident insurance) for companies.
SWICA’s professional care management service is developed.
Global Care, the insurance policy for Swiss nationals temporarily or permanently living abroad, is launched.
SWICA reaches the milestone of one million insured persons.
The santé24 online practice is launched.
SWICA continues to expand its health centres and strengthens primary care through contracts with doctors and partner practices.
SWICA’s health centres begin operating as an independent company under the name santémed Gesundheitszentren AG.
The cooperation between SWICA and Provita is stepped up: Provita is integrated into the SWICA Group.
A 70% stake in santémed is sold to Migros subsidiary Medbase, to allow for more vigorous expansion of the health centres.
SWICA becomes the first health insurance company to introduce a pharmacy model. With its Medpharm basic insurance model, customers can consult a TopPharm pharmacy or call santé24 as a first port of call. Going to see a doctor is the next step – if necessary. The model seeks to counter the trend towards rising healthcare costs.
The santé24 online practice receives a practice licence. This means that santé24 doctors can now offer services such as prescribing medication and issuing sick notes in digital form.
SWICA, the Kantonsspital Winterthur hospital and Medbase jointly build an integrated healthcare system in the Winterthur region, with the focus squarely on patients’ health. The Trio+ partners want to ensure high-quality medical provision over the long term.
Medbase, Hirslanden, Groupe Mutuel, Helsana and SWICA come together to form a company to develop a digitally enabled healthcare ecosystem. The aims of the joint project, named Compassana, are to optimise the coordination of medical care in order to improve the quality of treatment and make processes more efficient.
Psychiatrie Baselland and SWICA establish a joint subsidiary under the name WorkMed AG. The joint venture seeks to offer more comprehensive solutions to the ever-growing number of people who become unable to work because of mental health problems.
